The problem with that game is that it came out before the open-world obsession really took off. Everything people complained about at the time would end up becoming stalwart features of an incredibly popular sub genre. It would be great to see Far Cry 1 remastered using modern assets. Far Cry 1 was mainly a graphics showcase. At the time, the graphics were awesome. Far Cry 2 also looked great at the time it was released, with the realistic vegetation and lighting. It's just ironic that Far Cry 1 and Instincts already elegantly avoided those very problems. That's why I hold Far Cry 2 in such low regard, putting it even below the crappy Wii port of Evolution that Vengeance was. Even Vengeance, with its terrible graphics and extremely dumb AI, still didn't have the same level of monotony that Far Cry 2 had.
The original Far Cry was developed by Crytek, but the first game made by Ubisoft themself was the console somewhat-port, somewhat-remake, mainly reimaginating known as Far Cry Instincts, along with Evolution, and then the Xbox 360 port of the two bundled together known as Instincts: Predator.
